Reviews: A SERBIAN FILM
What can be said about A Serbian Film that hasn’t been said about the holocaust? It’s appauling, disturbing, grotesque. But beneath the bloody surface, A Serbian Film has one quality it absolutely DOES NOT share with the holocaust. It’s brilliant. Through the violence, and the bleak nihilistic look at life, there is certainly a glimmer of brilliant political allegory for the victimization and rape of the Serbian people. Aside from the obvious over the top violence and sadism, the film also features brilliant camera work, and a flawless story. The editing is top notch, with sometimes claustrophobic camera angles and great contrast in the colors. The whole film seems tinged in a dark high contrast filter that adds to the horrifying atmosphere. It’s easily the best film of 2011, and the hardest to stomach. Honestly, it’s probably the best film i’ve seen in the past 10 years. Once people stop thinking about the package, and open their eyes to the content, I’m sure the film will get the praise it so aptly deserves.
A Serbian Film is directed by Srdjan Spasojevic and stars Srdan Todorovic.
My Rating: 12/10 (It’s just that good)
